What Souls are

Souls are the only currency on Lifesteal. You earn them by killing mobs and spend them at the merchants at spawn. There is no money, no /pay and no other economy.

Earning Souls

You get 5 Souls for every mob you kill. The action bar shows +5 Souls and your new balance.

Counts:

  • Hostile mobs and animals, in every world (the Nether and the End too).
  • A mob you knocked into lava or off a cliff shortly before it died.

Does not count:

  • Players. PvP kills give no Souls.
  • Villagers, wandering traders, iron golems and snow golems.
  • Mobs from spawners or spawn eggs, bred animals, chickens from thrown eggs, and golems or withers that someone built. Such a mob stays marked for its whole life.
  • Kills in creative or spectator mode, and kills by team alts.

There is also a speed limit of 120 rewarded kills per minute (600 Souls a minute), so mob grinders do not run away with the economy.

Where to farm

Mobs do not spawn in spawn or the Warzone, and the overworld is always day. Look for mobs in caves and dark places in the Wilderness, or in the Nether and the End.

Checking your balance

CommandWhat it shows
/soulsYour balance
/souls top [page]The richest players, 10 per page

The merchant menus show your balance too.

Spending Souls

  • The Traveling Merchant (Vesh the Wanderer at spawn, or /tmerchant) sells up to four offers every Saturday. See The Traveling Merchant.
  • The Souls Shop (Morvath the Soulbinder at spawn, or /soulshop). What it sells is chosen by the staff and can change.

Every purchase asks you to confirm first. Items that do not fit in your inventory wait in /rewards.

You can not open the merchant menus while you are in combat (30 seconds after a PvP hit).

What can not happen

  • You never lose Souls when you die. Only buying something spends them.
  • Souls can not be sent to other players. There is no /pay. You can trade the items you bought with them.
  • Your balance never goes below zero.

Other ways to get Souls

Events can pay Souls as a reward. Bounties are paid in items, not in Souls: see Bounties.
